This is my early production '84 SVO. No power windows, power locks, A/C or quad shocks. Just cloth interior and hopper bars. It is Medium Canyon Red Glow and has been well taken care of over the years. Over the 2004-2005 winter, I began modifying it with a pile of parts I had been collecting. Everything that was done can easily be returned to stock in the future.
I found a good later model head to be used with an 85.5-86 style SVO intake. The head was totally rebuilt using Crane parts and a Crane A234 slider cam. It was also ported and given larger valves. I ported & polished the intake by macthing the lower to the head ports and matching the upper to the lower. The upper runner diameters were enlarged and the throttle body opening ported for a Tiny Avenger 60mm 5.0 throttle body conversion. The stock turbo is still in place, but has been internally (and externally) polished. I ditched the cracked E3 in favor of an E6 that I ported. I then took the E6 and hot side of the turbo and Ceramic Coated them Satin Black.
The stock computer was replaced with a LA3 to run the larger "brown top" 36 lb injectors housed in a late model fuel rail. The LA3 was an easy swap and took care of the hunting idle of the stock set up. What was once a two fuel pump set up is now a Walbro 255 lph in-tank / Ranger fuel filter on the rail system...another easy upgrade to do. An Aeromotive adjustable regulator covers fuel pressure on the rail.
The exhaust starts out with a 3" down pipe off the 40BOB.com web site. I then built the rest out of 3" mandrel bent pipe and used a 3" Magnum Race Bullet muffler. A bit loud, but it does sound more like a V8 !!
I built my own intercooler piping for a larger front mount that i bought from Boostcoolers off Ebay. The T3 was reclocked so the outlet points down. The piping is 2.5" diameter and runs around the radiator across the front and back up around. The VAM is now set up blow-thru and the piping also houses a Greddy Type-R blow off valve.
To let heat out on this turbo engine, the head and block were painted black........The rest of the parts under the hood I Powder Coated for a great long lasting look.
